Jurassic World Dominion, the third installment in the Jurassic World sequel trilogy, takes place four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The dinosaurs are now roaming free in the wilderness and other urban areas, living and hunting alongside humans after escaping from the Lockwood estate.

Following the Jurassic World Dominion LA premiere, first reactions to the film have been pouring in, and most of them are unfortunately mixed. While the film will of course be a box office success, considering the amount of star power and nostalgia that is packed into these stories, it appears that the Jurassic World sequel trilogy could just not find its footing, as critics like Matt Donato have labeled the concluding chapter as the worst in the franchise. On the other hand, others found Jurassic World Dominion to be a great improvement over its predecessor, with some even saying the film is the best of the new trilogy. Critics like Perri Nemiroff praised the blend of practical and digital effects, also pointing out how characters like Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing steal the show.
While the newer additions have certainly presented some thrilling action scenes involving terrifying dinosaurs, many fans have pointed to the lack of compelling characters in the Jurassic World trilogy, an aspect that made the original film so great. That said, original cast members like Sam Neill’s Dr. Alan Grant, Laura Dern’s Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum’s Ian Malcolm are returning. So, hopefully, the film finds some balance between the thrilling action sequences and the more dramatic, character moments.
Joining Howard and the original Jurassic Park cast are Chris Pratt as Owen Grady, DeWanda Wise as Kayla Watts, BD Wong as Dr. Henry Wu, Justice Smith as Franklin Webb, Daniella Pineda as Dr. Zia Rodriguez, Campbell Scott as Dr. Lewis Dodgson, Elva Trill as Charlotte Lockwood, and Omar Sy as Barry Sembène. Colin Trevorrow, who has returned to the director’s chair after directing 2015’s Jurassic World, and long-time collaborator Derek Connolly wrote the story while Emily Carmichael and Trevorrow co-wrote the screenplay.
Jurassic World Dominion is set to release in theatres on June 10, 2022.
