What this game update could be is anyone’s guess. Previously, Bungie teased a Destiny DLC event in 2016 that would be larger than any piece of content seen in the game so far, so many assume that it is likely the addition of a new Raid.
It’s also possible that Bungie is planning on fleshing out Destiny’s story further with the game’s post-February update. One of the constant sources of criticism for Destiny is its comparably weak story, so perhaps Bungie will be addressing that facet of the game with the update, maybe incorporating some of the cut Destiny story content that we learned about a few months back.
Of course, the update could also be focused on The Crucible, or a new game mode entirely, like a twist on the Prison of Elders or something of the like. Bungie has shown a willingness to think outside the box with Destiny’s updates, as we saw with the Sparrow Racing League, so at this point, Destiny’s first major update in 2016 could be just about anything.
While Destiny’s second year of content has been released at a slower rate than its first year so far, it’s starting to look like Bungie is turning things around. Next week’s weekly update may bring more information about the mysterious new content planned for Destiny in the months after February, and February itself is bringing to the table the Crimson Days event. The return of the Iron Banner should also be enough to keep Destiny enthusiasts busy as they wait patiently for more news on what 2016 will hold for the game.
Destiny is currently available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
