Staying alive for five nights (hence the game’s title) has been an increasingly popular means of spending free time, leading to massive success thus far for the game’s creator, Scott Cawthon. Despite the series spawning four entries to date, it’s been revealed that fans have yet to nail the story behind the fourth installment of Five Nights at Freddy’s, according to Cawthon.

Taking to the game’s official Steam page, Cawthon revealed that gamers have yet to crack the story surrounding Five Nights at Freddy’s 4. Apparently the pieces that tell the tale have gone unnoticed so far by dedicated players, and if the community isn’t able to piece it all together than it’s unlikely that the hidden narrative to the game will never be unveiled.

Not content with just that though, Cawthon also confirmed that players will finally be able to learn what’s inside the box from the fourth entry during Halloween this year. Apparently the contents of the box are the smaller narrative pieces all put together in some form, but the creator assures fans that it won’t simply be a tease for Five Nights at Freddy’s 5. Instead, it’ll be a at look something entirely new.

Five Nights at Freddy’s doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, despite the lack of plans for a direct follow up at this point in time. With a film currently in development, it’ll be interesting to see how the brand continues to evolve as it becomes a bigger property in the coming years.
